Where did pole dance come from

Lap dancing clubs in the United Kingdom grew in 1990's featuring pole dancing on stage. This proved very popular with men in the area and stag nights. But was very unpopular with local residents. Since two thousand onwards pole dancing has become more acceptable by the general public.
